PROJECT SPOTLIGHT: CUSTOM BOILER SOLUTION.

Our project of the month entailed implementing a boiler solution for a Theological Seminary in Lombard. This religious institution was faced with leaking underground pipes at their central boiler plant and they were in need of a solution which would meet the demands of two separate buildings and also provide long term savings and reliability.

WHAT SET PARAGON APART
The experience of the Paragon Mechanical technicians and project managers is what made the biggest difference for our client. A challenge we faced on this project was that one of the buildings needed both a domestic hot water and heating solution. With some creative thinking and technical expertise, the Paragon team aimed to exceed their expectations, meet the established budget, and our goal is to always complete the project on time.
THE OBJECTIVE
The system needed to be efficient, reliable, and be delivered in a timely manner. The boilers used on this project were 95% energy efficient cast aluminium boilers.
NEW SYSTEM RESULTS
Our technicians successfully rerouted all the piping to the newly installed boilers and completed the project within the established timeframe. In the end, the new boiler system met all efficiency expectations and the project came in under budget.

HOW WE DID IT.
Teamwork, teamwork, teamwork. Our team is what sets Paragon Mechanical apart. Through careful planning and with our outstanding team, we were ready to execute at every phase along the way.

  • Design Phase: We plan and coordinate to ensure all involved parties are ready to execute.
  • Establish Timeline: Since we deal exclusively with vital heating, cooling, and hot water systems, setting a timeline that allows our clients to maintain regular daily operations is a vital aspect to achieving our desired level of client satisfaction. We create timelines with the full intention of meeting or exceeding them.
  • Permits: Once the project is through the planning phases, we obtain the required permits.
  • Execution: The Paragon team conducts all work to specification, according to the plans, and following timelines communicated to the client. The management staff remains in constant contact with the client throughout the entire process to ensure they are up-to-date on progress, any potential changes, or complications.
  • Project Review: Time is allocated on each project to provide the client with operational instruction and to conduct, in some cases, a system start-up. During this time, two technicians will be present to suggest detailed maintenance strategies, answer any questions, and provide demonstrations on the new systems.
  • Project Completion: At the conclusion of the project, a binder is created and provided to the client. The binder includes all manuals and cut sheets pertaining to the completed work.

EXCELLENCE IS A TEAM EFFORT.

At Paragon Mechanical, we believe it to be of the utmost importance to recognize those who have the most influence on our team's success. The support we receive from the partner companies we work with each day is second to only the effort we receive from our own dedicated technicians and employees.

We truly value the support of all our partners. To show our appreciation, we regularly take the time to highlight a recent commercial project and recognize a specific partner who played an integral role in the success of that project. The companies we highlight are always a company we are proud to recommend to our loyal customers and various partners.

PROJECT SPOTLIGHT: APARTMENT COMPLEX HOT WATER SOLUTION.

This project was for a large multi-unit apartment building complex with 4 tiers. In each tier the total number of apartments is 210. The total apartment count is 440 and all units contain their own bathrooms. As you can see from the photo above, the City View complex is a brillianty constructed and maintained building, designed for tenants who appreciate a nice place to live and call their home.

WHY WE WON THE BID
We were approached to bid this project due to our past performance and expertise in designing and buliding hot water heating systems for similar buildings. After spending several meetings discussing the proposed system and explaining the cost, the coprorate managers decided to award the project to Paragon Mechanical to ensure it would be executed correctly.
WHY WE CHOSE LOCHINVAR
In light of the imporatance of this project and the saturation of the condensing boiler market, we took some time to research and inspect all available boilers. After careful consideration, we selected Lochinvar for this project due to their proven track record of product efficiency, their control system, and the manufacturer's warranty.
NEW SYSTEM RESULTS
The new Lochinvar system we installed has provided the following benefits to the customer:
  • Significantly Improved Energy Efficiency
  • Modulating Burner Control
  • Cutting-Edge User Interface for Easy Control
  • Ease of Maintenance

HOW WE DID IT.
A great deal of planning goes into a commercial project of this magnitude. Below you are able to see some of the steps required for successfully executing a commercial boiler installation.

  • Prepare a project timeline
  • Share timeline with management
  • Provide drawings of project to our installation crew for review
  • Preparation and staging of new equipment
  • Removal of old equipment
  • Temporary connection to provide hot water overnight
  • Setting of equipment
  • Piping of venting
  • Piping of plumbing
  • Controls
  • System configuration
  • Start-up specialist technician
  • Final training with customer
This project presented several challenges which, through perseverance and determination, we were able to overcome. We were asked to design the perfect hot water heating system for this customer and do so within the confines of the budget. This forced us to stay on track and ensure we delivered, as expected, every step of the way. We were successful in delivering an exceptional hot water, heating system capable of distributing more hot water at a lower cost of operation. We can realistically expect this system to save our customers between 15% and 27% on operating costs for making hot water. Additionally, we provided an expert service package to keep these boilers running, without fail, for many years.

PROJECT SPOTLIGHT: CUSTOM SNOW MELT SOLUTION.

In this edition of Paragon Mechanical's Comfort Quarterly Newsletter we are highlighting a unique snow melt project we had the pleasure of working on. Our friends at the Green Acres Country Club in Northbrook have long been known for their outstanding paddle courts, and they're now known for their ability to offer year-round play. When Green Acres approached our engineers with their desire, it became evident that we would need to create a custom solution. Not only did Green Acres want their courts to be free of snow during the harsh Chicago winters, they also needed them to be free of any moisture at all, and this had to be accomplished without heating the courts to the point of damaging the playing surface or risking injury to their members. Suffice it to say, Paragon got the job done.

WHY WE WERE CHOSEN
We were approached to bid this project due to our past performance and expertise in designing custom snow melt solutions. Our engineers demonstrated the ability to think outside the box and come up with unique surface heating solutions that may not have been conventionally used in typical applications.
WHAT DID IT TAKE?
We designed and implemented a customized boiler and PEX tubing system to ensure the paddle courts achieved the optimal level of heating. Our system needed to both melt the snow and evaporate the resulting moister in an efficient manner so that members of the Green Acres Country Club could enjoy the paddle courts 365 days a year.
NEW SYSTEM RESULTS
The new snow melting system we designed and installed has successfully provided the following benefits to the customer:
  • Yearround Surface Availability
  • Efficient Operation
  • Cutting-Edge Interface for Easy Control
  • Ease of Maintenance

This project presented several challenges which, through perseverance and determination, we were able to overcome. We were asked to invent, design, and implement the perfect snow melt system for this customer when a project of this nature had not been done before. This forced us to stay on track and ensure we delivered, as expected, every step of the way. We were successful in delivering an exceptional snow melting solution capable of keeping the paddle courts dry at the lowest possible cost of operation. The additional revenue generated from Green Acres' unique ability to offer yearround play to new and existing members will result in a system that pays for itself. To cap the project off, we included an expert service package to keep these boilers running, without fail, for many years to come.
